iCARE, Fighting Hunger Foundation

A Dream Turned Into A Mission

About Us

Five years ago, Johnnie Townsend had a vision. He wanted to start giving back to the community that helped raise him. As a native Detroiter, he took a look around and noticed there are plenty of individuals who need help here, locally. He started cleaning out his pantry and collecting food donations to bring to local churches, shelters, and food banks.

Seeing the difference he made with just donations, Johnnie started volunteering his time at some local churches serving fresh, hot meals to the homeless in the community. The conversations he had and the stories he heard kept his drive and passion alive. However, he knew he could be doing more.

In 2019, with the help of his eldest daughter and son-in-law, Johnnie began the process in making iCARE an official nonprofit. Minority owned, and family run, iCARE, Fighting Hunger Foundation is already making huge strides in comparison to where we started five years ago.  To this day, we have helped eight different organizations in the Metro Detroit/Detroit area. We are proud of the work we've accomplished, and look forward to doing more.

If you like to visit our website or make a donation go to, www.icarehunger.org. Thank you.

I Care

Yes, together we raised $151 dollars to help fight hunger. The first lot of food was donated to Trinity Lutheran Church and School. Trinity Lutheran Church and School located in Utica, Michigan is where I devoted my time to help feed others in the kitchen. I'm standing with Pastor Lu and John, who helps drives the truck for the ministry. It's wonderful to see the great work we are doing to help others in need. Let's continue to raise money and help fight hunger together. Thank you 'I Care.

I Care

Hello everyone, it's the time of year when homeless people need us the most. The need for food, shelter and even clothing become imperative as the weather gets colder. There are many people who can not provide this themselves. I know it's hard to believe people are truly in the need of those things, but they are. It doesn't take much, but a donation of something needed can change a person life. I care, so I help feed the homeless by donating to the nearest shelter or organization that supports the people in need. I encourage everyone to do the same. Thank you.
