Victor Martin

Victor Martin is an inspirational person to the people of Detroit. Victor is a  representative of the Detroit Rescue Mission Shelter which is located on 3rd Street at Martin Luther King Dr. Martin graduated from John J. Pershing high school in 2004. He attends Wayne County Community College in Detroit, majoring in Liberal Arts. Martin has been working at Detroit Rescue Mission Shelter for six months and he is making a difference in the city. His goal is to help meet many people's needs. He wants to give back to the community that he grew up in.  Martin Victor is an inspiring person to his coworkers and others that see him providing service.

President Jimmy Carter

Former President Jimmy Carter, is an inspiration to United States of America. Carter was born October 1, 1924. He was born and raised in Plain, Georgia. Carter, joined the Navy Academy and years later married Rosalynn Smith and had three son's. Despite problems he faced in his political career, Carter became president in 1977. President Carter only served one term, but made a difference while he was in office. He received the Noble Peace Prize and also wrote books. Former President Carter now faces a new challenge...cancer. He was diagnosed with melanoma which is a form of skin cancer. The doctors found spots on his brain which helped to confirm it. Carter is receiving treatment and continues to work in the community. Prayers goes out to him and his family. Former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president is an inspiring person due to his great achievements and fight against cancer.

8 South Relay

The 8 South, an inspirational team created by Nancy Jo Kulikowski, participated in the Relay For Life. Nancy had several friends, family members and employees on her team. One team member was Stacey Neubecker. They worked together at Costco to help collect donations to support the cause of finding cures for cancer. The Relay For Life is a fundraiser that is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society reaches thousands of communities and many countries. The organization's goal is to find a cure for cancer and to give support to those who lost loved ones to cancer. Nancy Jo Kulikowski,  a cancer survivor, continues to support that cause. The 8 South team came in 14th place out of 47 and raised $3723. This team along with other teams did a great job raising money and inspires others to continue to help raise awareness about the fight against cancer.

Who is Thomas Etholen Selfridge

Thomas Etholen Selfridge (1883-1908) served in the military and flew several missions. In his memory, the Selfridge Air National Guard Base was named after him. The Selfridge Military Air Museum is now open to the public. People can see the historical decommissioned aircrafts from history.

A Promise

The Susan G. Komen organization started from a promise to a dying sister to raise awareness about breast cancer. The promise a sister kept. Nancy G. Brinker made the promise to her sister, Susan, to help find a cure for this disease. The Susan G. Komen foundation has grown to be in  more than 30 countries. The foundation helps to raise awareness and support for those in need through research. Please check dates and schedule events or become a volunteer to help or race for the cure.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr.  is an inspirational man to thousands of people. King, who was married with four children, fought for equality for all. He believed in fighting for equal rights with peaceful methods. He  received several awards such as the Noble Peace Prize in October 14, 1964. King also helped organize marches with the goal of ending segregation. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave many speeches to inspire people to fight for equal rights. The speech that King is most famous for is the ' I Had a Dream' speech. It drew thousand of people from all over the country. Sadly, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4,1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. To this day,  Martin Luther King, Jr. still inspires people of all races with what he stood for and his belief that all men are created equal.
